Although the word “immigration” is often used as a general term for all persons entering the US, immigration law is broken down into two sub categories: those who intend to permanently immigrate to the US and gain Permanent Legal Residency or a “Green Card” and those who intend to arrive in the US for a limited period of time for a specific purpose. The later are referred to as “non-immigrants.”
