TN Free Trade NAFTA Professionals

Under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), citizens of Canada and Mexico are granted special privileges. One such privilege is the eligibility to enter and work in the U.S. under the non-immigrant TN status. Canadian Citizens may be eligible for the TN-1 and citizens of Mexico may be eligible for the TN-2. The foreign applicant must first confirm that he/she is seeking a NAFTA-approved professional occupation. The applicant must then demonstrate the proper education or training for that occupation. Finally, the applicant must work for a US employer. The TN is granted for a period of one year and can be renewed annually, as long as the applicant can show that the proposed stay continues to be of a temporary nature.
